Okay, so meet Butterfly. As you can see, not quite ready to leave the chrysalis – but she’s getting there. Gideon (mastermind behind AfricanCats), sent us this photo last week. Seven days later and despite a rash of national holidays here in South Africa, we arrive in Durban and find she has progressed a little further. Lexan margard now fitted to all the windows and portholes and yet another lick of paint gleams brightly on her hulls. Other work coming to completion inside. Still a lot of finishing off to be done, but boat building – especially a boat that is so innovative in design, and one made by an enthusiast in pursuit of perfection – is not a speedy process. We definitely need a Gideon to perfect the weather: we left England basking in glorious spring sunshine and arrive in Durban to find it cold, wet and windy. Brrr!
